Why this page may look bad in IE

If you are perchance a user of the omnipresent Internet Explorer you may notice that some of my pages look a bit strange. By no means I mean to force a browser choice upon anyone, but CSS hacking just to make this blog look good in IE is extremely tedious and I think of it as strange to “fix” web pages when it is the user agent that’s broken. Though I know that it may seem a bit like zealotism (IE bashing is quite popular these days) it is more an expression of my puristic character traits. I like the idea of separating markup and style. I also like the idea of standards that ensure that everyone can make his or her own product that works on the web which can gain a market share purely based on its quality and usability without being restrained by content that uses proprietary markup techniques. This is something we already had in the late nineties and we shouldn’t lower ourselves to such things again.

I test my design on Firefox, Opera and Safari, so I trust that it is viewable in most browsers. And I expect that the more technically inclined people use one of these anyway ;) . For those who still insist on using IE, I’ve done some dirty CSS hacking during some loose hours in a separate file so that my pages look reasonably well in IE too. However, this CSS is not optimal, so though the site is usable in IE, some quirks can occur now and then.
