Done stylin’ and profilin’.. finally :)
As you’ll probably see I’m finally done making a theme design of my own. I’m pretty sure it’s done now, except for some tiny things that may occur when I’m going to test it on Safari and Opera. After much struggle with CSS (why can’t I simply add percentages and pixel values..?) I decided to go for a design which uses a fixed width strip of 800 pixels wide, as unlike me, most people on larger screens do not browse full-screen, text looks better when the lines aren’t too wide and most of all it was possible to place the sidebar where I wanted it whithout it sticking out of the screen with short pages and without it being floated, which caused problems with floated images. Altogether I think it worked out pretty nicely, I hope you’ll like it :) .
And glitch reports are appreciated of course.
Grrr
Meaning, please, please just max-width it for normal browsers instead of width’ing it?
Oh, and login links to your management backend on your public-facing area are evil ;)
About the width: I knew people like yourself don’t browse full-screen on pretty small screens but I never actually realized that it might be less than 800 pixels wide (which makes sense when doing multiple things on an 800×600 screen, something which was considered the bare minimum by mr. Wilkinson in my first college year (which nevertheless doesn’t mean I shouldn’t care of course ;) )). I’ll fix this today I think, but the “only apply clear to floating elements within the same positioned parent” issue is kind of annoying to get to work, I think I’ll try it out on some simple test pages to see how this behaves. If CSS allowed to do some simple arithmetic instead of just percentages or pixel values or em for defining sizes and distances things would be a lot easier to get done, that’s what I know… (and I vaguely know IE has something like “expressions”, but I can see no wrong in being able to subtract some pixels from a percentage…)
About the login button: you’re right, it is evil, but such a link is evil anywhere on the page and I didn’t really know where to put it, I might as well drop it altogether.
Thanks for your input ;) .
There, fixed it. It’s now even usable on 640×480 screens, so even the visually impaired who insist on using large monitors on a very low resolution should be happy now ;) .
Hmm… not too shabby. :D
Looks pretty good to me. I created a new weblog myself today but decided to go with an existing theme and alter it a bit. There is just one thing that really annoys me about it. The XHTML 1.0 Validator returns an error and I do not know how to fix it.
Hmm, those tab thingies are nice… I think the validator doesn’t like a list with no elements in it, I think the problem will be gone as soon as you add links to it. Oh, and I hope you’ll stick to this blog and update it once in a while ;) .
