Amethyst haze

Amethyst haze on my desktop

Some of you might already have noticed that I have quite an eccentric taste when it comes to color, with the shade of purple commonly found in amethyst gem stones as one of my all-time favorites. Having switched to xfce recently and feeling that I needed a change from the immensely cute bunny that sat on my wallpaper I decided that I wanted a color oriented desktop again. I did some googling and since I find thunderstorms one of nature’s most intriguing phenomena one can imagine that I’m quite pleased with what I found ;) .

I snatched it here — this site seems to have a quite nice collection of other wallpapers as well.

XFce has a built-in wallpaper-cycler. Every day another wallpaper. Very nice and you never get bored! ;-)

Hmm, that’d be the same to me as the shuffle function of a cd or media player: I always disagree with the decision that was made for me. I rather stick to something I’ve carefully chosen for some time, usually I use the same wallpaper for months without getting bored… but that’s just me.

Am I one of these odd people that see no point whatsoever in wallpaper as one never seems the desktop anyway? :P

However I would admit on setting a wallpaper on the login screen and a /etc/motd if appropiate… :D

Backgrounds are fun when using transparency. Though transparent windows don’t work yet, you’ve just reminded me of the fact that I’m quite fond of transparent terminal windows, thanks ;) .

Oh yes… transparent windows. Pity the Windows method using GDI+ is rather sluggish. However with Longhorn, I mean Vista, such frivolousness shall become usable reality! :D
